Contexte

As part of the Art Nouveau Year, the project "Héritières" aims to create a dialogue between the past and present by highlighting Art Nouveau artists and contemporary artists working with the same mediums, such as textiles, silk painting, sculpture, and engraving. One of the objectives was to explore how the shared practice of these mediums creates a genuine connection between them. While Art Nouveau advocates for equality among all arts, gender parity was far from a reality at the time. Women artists, often rendered invisible, are rarely recognized by history unless associated with men. To capture the essence of this project, photographer Barbara Salomé Felgenhauer created a series of photographs that showcase the artists' works and the timeless link between artistic practices. Her images, both poetic and powerful, play a central role in the exhibition, offering a unique visual perspective on the dialogue between eras and artists. The "Héritières" exhibition is jointly organized by Urban, visit.brussels, and their partners.

Défi

The main challenge was to create a visual identity and communication materials that honor both the legacy of Art Nouveau artists and the contemporary work of current artists. It was also necessary to design large formats and digital and print materials that capture the essence of this artistic dialogue while attracting a diverse audience. Barbara Salomé Felgenhauer's photographs had to be at the heart of this visual identity, serving as a common thread to tell the story of the artists and their works.

Solution

We created a unified visual identity that highlights the artists' works through Barbara Salomé Felgenhauer's photographs. The communication materials, including large formats, were designed to be adaptable to different exhibition venues while seamlessly integrating with the existing scenography. Scenographer Elléa Cartier played a key role in creating an immersive atmosphere. Through elements such as flags, majestic plant compositions, and floor markings, she intuitively guided visitors through the exhibition, enhancing the visual and emotional impact of the presented works. Special events, like Museum Night Fever, were also organized to enrich the overall visitor experience.
